The University of Texas on Monday acknowledged it has received a complaint about state Sen. Charles Schwertner from a student, and that it has collected evidence as part of an investigation into him, marking the first official acknowledgement of the schools inquiry into whether Schwertner sent a sexually explicit photo and message to a graduate student he met this summer.
The American-Statesman reported two weeks ago that the school was investigating the allegation against the Georgetown Republican, and that it was considering banning him from campus if the allegation was proven true. The newspaper cited three senior UT officials with knowledge of the investigation who spoke on the condition of anonymity, because they were not authorized to discuss the situation.
A university spokesman at the time declined to answer questions about the investigation, saying UT does not confirm or comment on ongoing investigations. Mondays confirmation came in a letter from the university to the Texas attorney generals office that seeks permission to withhold records that the Statesman requested two weeks ago.
Schwertner met the student at a university-affiliated event this summer, and she told him she was interested in working at the Legislature, the senior UT officials said. Schwertner then communicated with her through LinkedIn and text messages about career advice before abruptly writing, I just really want to f--- you, and sending her a picture of a man in a shower with his genitalia exposed, the sources said. The image did not include his face.

(115,683 posts)I wonder what the ratio is - Seems like way more GOPer politicians are sexually creepy than Dems. Only Dem I can think of offhand is Anthony Weiner but it seems like every other day we hear about some Republican who's acted on some nasty urges.
