Texas puts 23,500 acres of West Texas school land up for sale

Texas officials have put 23,500 acres of high altitude West Texas scrubland on the market.

The state General Land Office put the Hudspeth County tract, which realtors are calling East Mile High Ranch, on the market a month ago. No asking price has been set and the state won’t be taking offers till the end of summer, said Eric DeJernett, one of the realtors handling the sale.

“The state wants to make sure the property is widely publicized. (If) anyone is interested, they have a chance to buy it,” he said.

Jerry Strano, a real estate agent who handles the sale of ranch properties in Hudspeth County but who is not involved with the sale of the state land, told the American-Statesman tracts in the area tend to go for roughly $100 per acre, depending on how developed they are.
