GOP loses supermajority in Texas House

http://www.chron.com/news/politics/article/GOP-loses-supermajority-in-Texas-House-4017935.php

AUSTIN - Texas House Republicans lost their supermajority in Tuesday's election but will hold on to solid control when a new legislative session opens in January.

Republicans opened the 2011 session with a 101-member supermajority and now account for 95 seats in the 150-member House. A two-thirds majority, or 100 votes, is needed to pass constitutional amendments or to create a quorum necessary to do business.

"They didn't even need us to show up," said House Democratic Caucus leader Jessica Farrar, D-Houston, about the 2011 session. "We're relevant again."

This reminds me of the old story of how does one eat an elephant..........one bite at a time. Hopefully the Democratic party can make gains in future elections and we can restore balance to Texas State Government.

I'm grateful that enough Democrats were elected to erase the Republicans' super-majority, but d**n, I'm hoping for the day where Democrats gain parity or superiority in one chamber in the Texas legislature again. The 2010 electoral disaster STILL hurts.
