Jenkins Urges Statewide Safety Requirements in a Letter to Abbott

Dallas County’s new coronavirus cases continues to rapidly climb. June 1, the county counted 220 new cases. Sunday, the number jumped to 570.

The disturbing trend prompted Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins to write a letter to Gov. Greg Abbott on Sunday. In it, he urges Abbott to impose statewide social distancing and mask-wearing mandates.

“Our ability to control the spread and impact of COVID-19 in our community is critical to our ability to allow our shared constituents to stay safe and thrive,” Jenkins wrote.

Throughout the pandemic, Jenkins and Abbott have butted heads over the capacity of local and state governments to enforce safety requirements. Jenkins has condemned Abbott for being too lax with regulations. Abbott has criticized Jenkins for measures that landed Dallas hair salon owner Shelley Luther in jail.

1. Jenkins should run for Govenor. He's got the most level headed approach to leadership.

I really like the guy & he approaches every issue from a point of fairness for his community.

💙 Govenor Clay Jenkins ~ November 8, 2022

Btw, the hair salon owner landed in jail because she defied the city order on re-opening.
Jenkins did his job for his city.
The hair salon owner did not.
That's why she went to jail.

Qualify may be the wrong word I'm looking for.

He needs to run in 2022...

so that takes care of qualified.

Anybody can become governor if they get the most votes. Having been a county judge is not a deterrent. At All.

Jenkins is certainly qualified and he would be a great governor.

6. I didn't mean that as Judge he wasn't qualified, rather the opposite.

I did word my post oddly though 😬

I thought maybe as judge he would see himself more as a Tx SC or AG.

He'd be great with either of those positions also.
But dang , Tx would thrive with Jenkins as Gov.
