ERCOT and Oncor Call on All Texans to Conserve Electricity Through Tuesday

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which oversees the state's electric grid, is asking all Texans to limit and reduce power usage as much as possible through Tuesday.

"This statewide weather system is expected to bring Texas the coldest weather we've experienced in decades," ERCOT President and CEO Bill Magness said. "With temperatures rapidly declining, we are already seeing high electric use and anticipating record-breaking demand in the ERCOT region."

Frozen wind turbines and limited natural gas supplies for generating units also contribute to the concerns about electric use.

ERCOT says you can monitor grid conditions in real time, through Twitter or their mobile app.

We lost power on Monday night and it didn't come back on for 26 hours. In snowy, 12-degree weather. I'm typing this in my home, still wearing a wool hat and down hunting jacket. Final insult: I mindlessly turned on the coffee this morning and remembered a few minutes later that we had to throw out most of what was in the fridge---including the milk and cream. Amazing how quick you can re-acquire a taste for black coffee, when circumstances dictate.

Hope everybody else did alright. ("Everybody" not including the usual bunch of DU Texas-bashers who are reveling in our hardships. They can keep warm by fucking themselves.)
