Paris, Texas has long held the reputation of being a safe haven for the Klan and white supremacy. This weekend, Beto showed us all how much Texas is changing.

(45,541 posts)That's not a lot of change. I know Paris, Texas. Texas is not even close to changing.

(6,161 posts)whether he wins or not, it is so important to have strong dem candidates running in all red areas. Same with Stacey Abrams, it may tale a few election cycles for real change to occur but we dont bother, no change would even be possible.

(4,432 posts)There were about 60 of us, in spite of a heavily armed and brandishing law enforcement presence intermingled with militia types across the street. I just happened to be passing through and dropped in for a few hours.

(23,611 posts)Repukes really can't win in the long term if they don't cheat. We've got to be on our game in the interim in terms of gerrymandering and election rigging.

They have forgotten Anne Richard's Texas, or the one which elected LBJ.

(113,880 posts)but I'm familiar with all four of them. Most of the people work blue collar jobs and a few of them may stop in at a bar in town to pick up some food after work. There are a few more food options in Giddings and Caldwell since they are larger towns than Dime Box and Ledbetter.
The mainstream media needs to stop fantasizing/romanticizing about events from more than a century ago.

(8,122 posts)and agreed with the vision of a better Texas that LBJ and others were trying to push forward. The simplistic version of today's Texas the MSM likes is far out of date if not completely made up. Likewise Abbott's RW Christian nationalist version (and W's before him) ignores genuine Texas history both bad and good.
As such the MSM condemns with a very broad brush the entirety of Texas to Abbott's dystopian nightmare while ignoring Democratic history in the state and much common ground between the traditional communities of faith there.
