Tyler man charged after flying from Peru to Dallas with jacket full of snakes

A 63-year-old Tyler man has pleaded guilty to smuggling live snakes from Peru inside his jacket on an airplane in August 2012.

William Lamar, an eco-tourism guide, flew to Miami from Lima, Peru, and then on to Dallas, all the while carrying seven snakes in his jacket.

He had purchased them from a market in Lima.

Officials from the Transportation Security Administration refused to let him board a commuter plane to his native Tyler, Texas, so he found alternate transportation back to Tyler.
