Vt. State Police investigate theft of cruiser, patrol rifle

RUTLAND CITY, Vt. (WCAX) - The Vermont State Police are investigating the theft of one of their cruisers along with a patrol rifle.
Police said a heavy law enforcement presence on West Street in Rutland late Tuesday afternoon was part of that investigation. Photos viewers sent to WCAX News show what looks like an armored truck at the scene. Tuesday evening, police said the road had been reopened and they do not believe there is any danger to the public in the vicinity.
Police say the cruiser was taken from outside a home in the city sometime between 2 a.m. and 4:40 a.m. Tuesday.
The stolen cruiser was later found elsewhere in the city, but the Sig Sauer patrol rifle had been forcibly removed.
