Virginias unemployment rate declined slightly in January to its lowest point since October 2008.
The state jobless rate was 4.7 percent in January, down from 4.8 percent in December and down from 5.3 percent in January 2014, the Virginia Employment Commission reported today. ... The rates have been adjusted for seasonal factors.
Virginias seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained below the national rate in January, which increased by one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.7 percent from December. The February national jobless rate stood at 5.5 percent.
In January, the state's labor force also expanded by 10,207, after contracting the previous nine months, the commission said.
