Deputy had been moved off school beat after complaints

New details emerged Thursday in the child sex exploitation case against a former Madison County sheriff’s detective who previously was transferred from a school position following complaints from parents.

Bruce Arlie Harvey, 42, of Reva, pleaded not guilty to nine child pornography-related charges on Thursday in federal court in Charlottesville. Prosecutors allege Harvey had sexual relations with two teenage girls between 1998 and 2007, while he worked as a karate instructor, and produced videos of their sexual activities.

Among the charges, Harvey faces two counts of transportation with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. Authorities allege that between May 1998 and September 1999, Harvey transported girls under 18 from Virginia to Maryland with the intent to engage in sex. He faces two additional counts of transportation with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and two counts of travel with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

He also faces two counts of producing child pornography and one count of possession of a child pornography.
