Senate candidates Kaine and Stewart speak at Liberty University forum
Republican Corey Stewart was on friendly turf at conservative Liberty University Thursday evening, but it was Sen. Tim Kaines crowd that turned out.
Kaine received overwhelming applause and a few jeers from an audience of around 500 at a town hall with Stewart, who received a polite ovation.
Each candidate appeared for a half hour, answering questions on domestic issues and economic policy from moderators and Liberty students. The crowd in The Center for Music and Worship Arts comprised students, community members and members of both the Lynchburg Republican and Democratic committees.
In his pitch, Kaine said his campaign was about a Virginia that works for all. The senator, a Democrat seeking his second term, said that means fair wages, a fair tax code, skills training, immigration reform, and standing up for all.
