About 130 Hampton Roads maritime industry employees will have an opportunity to improve their job safety skills. ... The Virginia Ship Repair Association will use $65,000 from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Susan Harwood Training Grants Program to develop an electrical hazard training course for workers in the ship repairing business, organization president Bill Crow said.

OSHA and the trade organization are long-time partners. The association submitted its first-ever grant proposal for the training course, which it will plan and design. .... Crow said the course will last around three days and include classroom and lab sessions. The course will focus on areas like electrocution hazards, sparks and fires, overheating outlets and fraying cords.
