Tell Gov. McDonnell: Veto the Senate Republicans' hyper-partisan power grab.

(from Credo)

On Monday, Republicans in the Virginia state Senate brazenly blindsided their Democratic colleagues with a terrible bill that will gerrymander legislative districts to massively favor Republicans in the 2015 election.

And the bill does this by diluting the political power of African Americans in the state.

Normally, such an odious bill would not have passed the Senate.

But the Republicans waited to spring their ambush until state Senator Henry Marsh, a prominent, decades-long civil rights leader, was in DC attending the second inauguration of the country's first African-American president (which happened to fall, let's remember, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day).

This allowed the Republicans, without any notice or hearings, and almost no debate, to ram through this hyper-partisan power grab on a party-line 20-19 vote.

I just signed a petition telling Gov. McDonnell to veto the Senate Republicans' hyper-partisan power grab. I hope you do, too.

I doubt it will really help though. McDonnell will stand in favor of this further gerrymandering of our state.

ambition for further and higher public office will give him pause about how independents will view his rubber-stamping this disgusting power grab. "Transvaginal ultrasound" crushed his VP dreams so I hope he learned a lesson.

Then again, he is a total asshat, so his behaving like one never surprises me.
