I work right by the White House of the Confederacy so I can see that the name is newish (they needed to replace the sign instead of relettering it as you can still see the previous name). The tag line on the website is "Telling the stories of the Civil War from multiple perspectives at three locations in Richmond and Appomattox." Is it a legitimate historical look at the Civil War or is it more of a "we weren't getting enough business celebrating the south so we'll make it sound more even handed but we still think the south was right" type rebranding? If it is the former, I'd be willing to give it a visit. If the latter, no way, no how.

(41,131 posts)There's an excellent Union site in Alexandria, Va. outside Old Town- the Fort Ward Museum & Civil War Site.
It has a small museum with CW artifacts and interpretive exhibits. The site is the best preserved of the 'Defenses of Washington,' 100 earthwork forts and batteries that Lincoln ordered built to surround and protect the capitol of Washington, DC from the CSA in 1861. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Ward_(Virginia)

Right now its not so much that I'm looking for Civil War sites so much as I'm deciding what things in Richmond deserve my patronage. I only moved here a year ago and my family is coming to visit for the holidays so there will probably be a lot of touristing going on.
