Murder suspect accused of killing police dog formally charged for both incidents
TACOMA, Wash. -- A man who was already wanted in a deadly shooting in Tacoma and then allegedly shot and killed a Tacoma PD police dog during his capture last week has been formally charged with murder, prosecutors said Monday.
Dyrell Swinson had been on the run after a shooting in a Tacoma parking lot on Aug. 12 left a man dead, according to court documents.
A witness told police the three of them had been close friends in a street gang, but shooting stemmed over allegations from the suspect that the victim had been involved with the mother of his children.
The witness said Swinson confronted the victim over the alleged involvement and then reached into his car, grabbed a gun and shot the victim several times.
