Fifty mountain goats were moved from the Olympics to the Cascade Mountains during a final relocation effort earlier this month.
During the most recent effort, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) released the goats at 12 sites in the North Cascades.
Since Sept. 2018, crews moved 325 mountain goats as part of the National Park Services (NPS) 2018 mountain goat management plan to remove 725 goats from Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park.
In addition to the goats that were relocated, 16 were taken to a zoo, 22 died while being captured, four died in transport, six that werent fit to be relocated were euthanized and eight that couldnt be safely captured were killed.

Mountain goats threaten visitor safety and damage the unique vegetation of the Olympic Mountains. Because many of the areas inhabited by mountain goats are popular destinations for park and national forest visitors, there is high potential for mountain goat-human interactions. Mountain goats can be a nuisance along trails and around wilderness campsites where they persistently seek salt and minerals from human urine, packs, and sweat on clothing. They often paw and dig areas on the ground where hikers have urinated or disposed of cooking wastewater. The nature of mountain goat-human interactions can vary widely, from humans observing mountain goats from several hundred meters away across a ridge, mountain goats approaching visitors, hazing events and hazardous interactions such as the October 2010 fatality of a park visitor on a popular hiking trail.

22 died while being captured (we did something stupid)
6 that weren't fit to be relocated (they fought back)
8 that could not be captured (end of the day, we were ready to go home).
