Second patient dies at Auburn hospital amid COVID-19 outbreak
AUBURN, Wash. -- A second patient has died from a COVID-19 exposure and five others tested positive in an outbreak at an Auburn Hospital, a hospital spokesperson said Friday.
The initial exposure was discovered on Nov. 5 in a patient at the memory care section of Multicare Auburn Medical Center. Eight additional patients there tested positive and one eventually died on Nov. 10.
The hospital created a special COVID unit for these patients and have found since that five additional patients have tested positive, while a second patient died on Nov. 16, the spokesperson said.
"Its important to know that these COVID-19 cases are confined to this locked unit where visitors are not allowed," the spokesperson told KOMO News. "The affected patient population, in particular, is unable to be consistently compliant with masking and tends to comingle with fellow patients more than other units in the hospital."
