'Brutal news': Seattle hotels have lowest occupancy on West Coast amid pandemic
SEATTLE - Hotels in Seattle now have the lowest occupancy rate on the West Coast, with only 20% of rooms booked amid the ongoing pandemic, according to figures released Thursday.
As a result, revenues at Seattle hotels are down by an average of 80%, according to the figures released by Visit Seattle and Smith Travel Research.
"Thats brutal news for the hotel and hospitality (industry), which has been devastated by the pandemic, the 14-day quarantine and no-travel recommendations," said Jacque Coe, spokesperson for the Seattle Hotel Association and Seattle Restaurant Alliance.
Coe also said it is bad news for the city of Seattle itself because the correlating job losses of hotel employees has a "rolling impact" on local restaurants, theaters, museums and other destinations that depend on hotel guests and tourism dollars.
