Chief Seattle Club Executive Director Colleen Echohawk launches mayoral campaign
Seattle's 2021 mayoral race got a new candidate Monday morning.
Chief Seattle Club Executive Director Colleen Echohawk launched her campaign for mayor, calling herself a "new face" in local politics.
"Im running for Mayor of Seattle because I love this city, and we have a once-in-a-generation chance to rethink how it works, and who it works for. If we take a people-first approach to renewal then we can become as transformative as our communities demand us to be," wrote Echohawk on her new campaign website.
A member of the Kithehaki Band of the Pawnee Nation and a member of the Upper Athabascan people of Mentasta Lake, Echohawk hinted at a possible run after incumbent mayor Jenny Durkan said she would not seek reelection and instead focus on the city's recovery to COVID-19.

Echohawk's resume proves she has both strong community and business ties and can juggle a variety of interests: she is the founder the Coalition to End Urban Indigenous Homelessness, serves on the Community Police Commission and has previously served on the board of the Downtown Seattle Association.
