Sea-Tac Airport plans $6M upgrade to its Wi-Fi network

The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is spending an extra $6 million to bring travelers, airline crews and airport workers what everyone has badly wanted for years: a free, high-speed Wi-Fi network — even on the jet bridge.

The Port of Seattle-owned facility says its Wi-Fi improvements will provide up to a 200% increase in the coverage and number of access points on airport concourse levels, along with a tenfold increase in bandwidth, with support for newer devices.

The Pacific Northwest's largest airport recently received the green light for its latest upgrades from elected Port of Seattle commissioners, and it represents the third chapter in a series of modernization efforts that began in 2014.

The latest project will complete Wi-Fi equipment additions to most of the airport’s passenger loading bridges, typically where people now lose coverage as they walk from the terminal to board their airplane. The bridges are the articulated walkways that connect parked jets to airport terminals.
