Crews complete removal of Seattle's Pier 58, making room for new pier and park

SEATTLE - Crews have now completed the demolition and removal of Pier 58 on the Seattle waterfront, making room for a new pier and park slated to open in late 2024 or 2025, city officials said Thursday.

The pier was closed to the public in August 2020 after evidence was found that the structure was rapidly deteriorating, and pier removal began in September 2020 under emergency contracting protocols.

The pier was removed from the water side by barge and crane. The work included removal of about 48,000 square feet of pier deck and concrete structures, and approximately 340 timber and steel support piles.

"The completion of the Pier 58 removal brings Seattle, residents and visitors, one step closer to realizing our vision for a vibrant Waterfront," said Mayor Jenny Durkan.
