'Red Apple Fire' burning 7,000 acres in Chelan Co., threatens hundreds of homes

A wildfire in Chelan County is threatening hundreds of homes Tuesday night as state efforts mobilize to combat the growing threat.

The "Red Apple Fire" began just before 7 p.m. Tuesday in Chelan County near Wenatchee. Authorities estimate the fire at 7,000 acres and growing as of Wednesday afternoon, threatening 234 homes, orchards and a power substation.

State firefighting resources were mobilized at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to fight the fire.

Level 3 evacuations in the area are in effect, while investigators look at the case for the fire.
