Whatcom County, cascades to get more snow before drier weekend

SEATTLE - Whatcom County is the snow capital of the lowlands after another round hit the area overnight.

One more winter wallop brings a plowable 3"-5" of new snow to Whatcom County Wednesday night but this will be the last of the lowland snow for a while.

"Low-level winds flow out of the east this afternoon in response to an approaching Pacific storm," KOMO Meteorologist Kristin Clark explained. "In summer, an easterly flow would be a warming wind descending the western slopes of the Cascades. But in winter, the air is significantly colder east of the Cascades."

This colder air will prime the foothills, Hood Canal region and Whatcom/Skagit County for more snow.
