Everett Animal Shelter gets an $11,000 donation
EVERETT Another large donation will help staff care for birds, bunnies, cats, dogs, hamsters and other creatures at the Everett Animal Shelter.
On Wednesday, the Everett City Council accepted $11,494 from Myrtle Katherine Kay Huffendicks trust for the Fund for Animals. Gifts worth over $10,000 require council approval.
In the past year, the city-run shelter received its two largest donations: $22,000 from Greg Stewart in December and $61,000 from Sue Strong in January.
Huffendick was a retired bookkeeper who lived in Seattle. She was 97 when she died in 1999, according to a story in The Seattle Times. She created a $2 million trust to support 23 charities such as the Humane Society of the United States, the Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), the Veal Calf Refuge, the Performing Animal Welfare Society, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Millionair Club and the Union Gospel Mission, The Seattle Times reported.
