Biden departs Seattle after whirlwind trip to mark Earth Day, tout accomplishments
SEATTLE (KOMO) President Joe Biden departed Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Friday afternoon after a whirlwind trip to the Pacific Northwest that included stops in Portland and Seattle, where he marked Earth Day by signing an executive order to protect forests on federal lands before speaking at a local college.
Speaking to an enthusiastic group of supporters at Green River College in Auburn, Biden touted the achievements of his administration and spoke about efforts to shore up the Affordable Care Act.
During his trip to Seattle, the president's motorcade resulted in gridlock on area roads and freeways as Secret Service agents stopped traffic to make travel easier for Biden's entourage.
At his first event of the day, a speech at Seward Park, Biden signed an executive order to safeguard American forests and fight climate change, with Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, among others, looking on. The order aims to "strengthen our forests, boost wildfire resilience and combat global deforestation," as part of an effort to save some of the nation's largest and oldest trees.
