Pierce County Lifts Burn Ban For Unincorporated Areas
PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Recent rainfall, and plenty more ahead this week, has allowed Pierce County's fire marshal to end a county-wide fire safety burn ban, officials announced Monday. The burn ban went into effect in early August as unseasonably warm and dry conditions persisted through late summer into early fall.
While the fire safety restrictions are no longer in place for unincorporated communities, some local restrictions may remain in place, and residents should check the rules inside their city and fire districts.
"Lifting the ban does not affect those areas in Pierce County where burning is prohibited because of environmental pollution laws, or in areas where the local fire district limits or prohibits burning," the county wrote Monday. "Burning in those areas is still not allowed."
Burning garbage, paper and trash remains broadly prohibited, and neighbors are encouraged to check with their fire departments to see if they need permits for other outdoor burning.
