King County council sends $1.25 billion levy for crisis care centers to voters
On Monday, the King County council unanimously voted to have voters decide on a proposal to build five new mental health care centers across the county.
If approved by voters, the Crisis Care Centers levy would raise $1.25 billion for behavioral health and create a regional network of five crisis care centers.
The $1.25 billion price tag would be paid over nine years and cost owners of a median-priced home about $121 a year.
The behavioral health crisis is intersectional - it shows up in our streets, it shows up in our jails, and it shows up in our communities. By improving and investing in our behavioral health crisis system, we can also create solutions for other important areas, from public safety to public health to homelessness, said King County Executive Dow Constantine in a statement.
