Days after Silver Alert, dozens search for missing man near Darrington

DARRINGTON — Roughly 45 volunteers were helping sheriff’s deputies Tuesday in a search for a missing man with dementia whose truck was found on a remote road southeast of Darrington.

Roderick Latham , 83, who does not normally drive, left his Snohomish home around 1:30 a.m. Friday without telling his wife, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. He was driving a 2005 black GMC Sierra truck with license plate B64341V.

The truck was reportedly abandoned near Rat Trap Pass in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, about a 50-minute drive from Darrington.

The sheriff’s office put a Silver Alert on Friday.

We were fortunate when my mom developed Alzheimer's. There was only one incident when she went on a wander, and a neighbor saw her and brought her home.

Before that she started having 'fender benders so we took away her car keys. Losing that freedom was a struggle for her. She actually use to call the police on us. Fortunately the police chief's family was friends with mine so he knew the situation.

My heart goes out to anyone dealing with a family member who has dementia.
