SR 520 Bridge over Lake Washington closed this weekend
Drivers who use the State Route 520 Bridge between Seattle and the eastside should be aware of a 54-hour closure of the highway across Lake Washington this weekend.
Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will place 30 girders — support beams — over the highway for a future pedestrian and bicycle bridge.
"This will be a big milestone weekend for us," WSDOT's Steve Peer said.
Seven girders will also be added for new HOV ramps that will lead to and from a new 3-acre lid under construction in Seattle’s Montlake neighborhood. The highly anticipated project will also include a 72-foot wide bike and pedestrian bridge — the first of its kind in Seattle.
