http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2014/07/10/us/ap-us-washington-wildfires.html?ref=usYAKIMA, Wash. One central Washington wildfire has burned across 28 square miles in just two days while another has broken out in hot, tinder-dry conditions.
The Mills Canyon fire near Entiat has burned across more than 18,000 acres since it started Tuesday, fire spokesman Rick Scriven said Thursday evening. Residents of about a dozen homes have been told to evacuate, while more than 200 other homes were threatened.
A 30-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 97A reopened Thursday after being closed for 24 hours by the fire.
About 40 miles away, on the west side of Lake Chelan, the new 25-Mile Fire quickly burned across 350 acres by Thursday evening. Some residents have been told to leave their homes.

Right now the whole TOWNS of Pateros and Brewster, nearby on the Columbia River, are on fire.
This is a nightmare right out of hell. And yes, global warming is at its base. Tinder dry forests; hot winds; lack of rainfall. The USFS is doing everything in its power to help. But no human or other resource is worth squat in the face of this disaster.
We sit here right now essentially trapped, with the highways north and west closed. Choking wind to the south and east. We are in a valley out of which we can still evacute for now. We border national forest in a beautiful mountain valley, where we moved to 24 years ago. At the time, though there was some fire history, it seemed like an anomaly. Now, ever year, there is another catastrophic fire year. All are being dwarfed by this one.
We ask for your concentrated positive vibes and prayers.

How did it happen? Was anyone fighting the fire?

(6,530 posts)It was very windy yesterday morning and the fire was moving very fast up and down the hills. Twisp area.
