Facebook commits $15M to Seattle coding-education group

Seattle coding-education nonprofit Code.org is getting a big bump from Facebook.

The nonprofit announced Thursday that Facebook had committed $15 million to the organization, to be given over the course of five years.

Code.org, founded by Seattle-area entrepreneurs Hadi and Ali Partovi, seeks to bring coding education to schools around the world by developing curricula and training teachers. “The opportunity to learn computer science shouldn’t depend on your neighborhood, your gender, or the color of your skin,” Code.org co-founder Hadi Partovi said in a statement announcing the donation.
