Any thoughts on why Robert Satiacum sprang this on us NOW?

I admire the guy(saw him speak on Indigenous Peoples' Day here in Oly, he is a poet and legendary activist in Washington State), and we all know he has his principles and defends them to the death.

But he was chosen as an elector months ago and has known that Hillary was the nominee since Philly.

Why would he make this announcement at this late date?

I personally think he's nuts but, in the immensely unlikely event that HRC winds up at 269 EV without his vote, I suspect he'd follow the wishes of the state rather than allow a deadlock that would surely end with the Republican-dominated House picking Trump.
