Seattle renters need an annual raise of $1,248 to keep up with housing costs

Seattle renters need a raise of $1,248 every year keep pace with rising rents, according to research from Zillow.

Renters in Seattle, Los Angeles and Boston need the biggest income increases in 2017 and will need an annual raise of at least $1,000 to keep up with rising rents and pay the same percentage of their income toward housing.

The Zillow Rent Index, which tracks an area’s median monthly rent, is $2,100 in Seattle. Rents in the city are expected to rise $104 next year.
