Doug Baldwin endorses police de-escalation training initiative
RENTON -- Doug Baldwin, Seahawks receiver and social justice advocate, announced Wednesday his public and financial support for Initiative 940.
The initiative would "would require law enforcement to receive violence de-escalation, mental-health, and first-aid training, and provide first-aid; and change standards for use of deadly force, adding a 'good faith' standard and independent investigation," according to the De-Escalate Washington Campaign website.
"It's been my desire to support efforts to aim at healing the relationship between law enforcement and the community," Baldwin said Wednesday. "I believe this initiative is a step in the right direction."
Baldwin's public and financial backing -- he wouldn't specify a dollar amount on the financial side -- is another example of the 29-year-old's continued efforts to decrease tensions between the community and local law enforcement.
