Related: About this forumThese Four House Members from Washington State Just Voted for the Republican Tax Bill
Elections have consequences. Here in Washington State, the voters who've shown up in recent elections have given us a Congressional delegation with four Republicans (representing eastern and southern Washington) and six Democrats (representing western Washington).
Today in DC, those elected representatives all participated in a defining vote on a "smash-and-grab" tax bill that's being described the "wholesale looting" of America. The bill will enrich certain Republicans who serve in DC, including House Speaker Paul Ryan and President Donald Trump. It's "a giveaway to corporations and the wealthy that will end up hurting most families." And it will do a lot to increase income inequality.
The vote in the US House broke along party lines, with zero Democrats voting to pass. A few Republicans did join the Democrats in voting no, but none of those no-voting Republicans were from Washington State.
Instead, all four of our state's Republican representativesDave Reichert, Jaime Herrera Beutler, Dan Newhouse, and Cathy McMorris Rodgersvoted yes.

(5,477 posts)Dave "I vote the way they tell me to" Reichert announced back in September that he will not be running again in 2018, so he doesn't give a fuck anymore what anyone thinks of him.
The other 3 clowns are hardcore wingnuts from districts that (for now) support them wholeheartedly - places that still have huge 'tRump/Pence' signs by the roadside. They generally get around 60% of the vote, especially in the more recently gerrymandered districts.
You can write to them if you wish; it probably won't do any good, but at least you'll have a new pen pal.

(58,653 posts)And the property taxes in the red counties aren't as high as in the Puget Sound corridor. Need a constitutional amendment to change the income tax thing, and the property tax side of it doesn't look like it will self correct any time soon. Probably need a real economic depression to fix that.
Oh well. I was hoping we could flip a district or two this cycle. Perhaps this will help.
