Senate passes bill banning bump stocks

OLYMPIA — Washington edged closer this week to outlawing the sale and possession of devices known as bump stocks that allow semiautomatic weapons to fire like fully automatic models.

But it does not appear the Legislature will act this session to limit the size of ammunition magazines, conduct background checks of those buying assault-style weapons or punish those who fail to safely store their firearms.

On Thursday, a bill prohibiting bump-stock devices cleared the Senate on a 29-20 vote as four Republicans joined the majority Democrats to pass it. The measure moves to the House where it is given a good chance of passage.

Senate Bill 5992 would ban the manufacture and sale of the after-market devices starting July 1. It makes it illegal to own or possess them beginning July 1, 2019.

We've seen the havoc of what bump-stock can do. There is no need for a bump stock. Ban them, break'em up, or melt'em down.

It is obvious, to me, that ownership of a bump-stock by any individual citizen does not, ". . . promote the general Welfare, . . ."

We don't know the why of Los Vegas or of Sandy Hook other than, they could buy a weapon of mass casualties and they were visited by a mental deficiency.

The Senate passed this to score some cheap publicity points so the voters back home will think they are actually working on the people's interests. Pay no attention to the choice bribes they were paid by the gun lobby. This is performance art, Kabuki Theater, the Cirque De Obscène, and the bill isn't going any place because the gun nut hardliners in the House won't ever let it come to the floor.

That this is a state of Washington's legislature bill and not federal legislation?

Shit, I can't keep those two straight anymore. Anyway their $$$$$$ to the GOP retirement fund is still flowing into the Capitol so I am not expecting much from this.
