Washington will give benefits to federal employees forced to work
Washington will expand unemployment benefits to such federal workers as FBI agents, Transportation Security Administration personnel and members of the Coast Guard who must remain on the job without pay during the partial government shutdown.
"Washington state will not stand by while our public servants work day after day while struggling to make ends meet: It is unconscionable that the President is turning public servants into political pawns," Gov. Jay Inslee said in a Tweet.
The announcement will impact approximately 8,000 people in the Evergreen State who have been deemed essential federal workers, Inslee said in a posting. Since the shutdown began in December, the roughly 8,000 workers furloughed but not at work were eligible to receive state unemployment benefits.
Inslee has missed no opportunity to slam Trump, since in 2016 he jokingly proposed building a wall to keep Trump out of the state.
He is now contemplating a run for President in 2020, and missing not a chance to pick a fight with the 45th President.
