Because Scott Walker and his Republican colleagues in the Legislature decided to move Wisconsin’s traditional partisan fall primary from September to August in a transparent effort to reduce voter participation, the Aug. 9 election presents a dilemma.


Voters are being asked to go to the polls at the height of the summer vacation season and a time when university students are on summer break. But turnout is crucial. In several contests in Dane County — district attorney, county treasurer and an Assembly seat — the primary will effectively decide who hold important public offices.

And, though it's been so under the radar you may have missed it, Russ Feingold faces a primary challenge from a political newcomer with strong conservative leanings. Feingold needs to win Aug. 9 to face Ron Johnson in November.

Whether Ismael Ozanne remains Dane County's DA or is replaced by challenger Bob Jambois will be determined Tuesday, since there is no Republican or independent to face in November................................
