I can't understand what possible reason they could have to hold up those signs.

Maybe they are up and coming staffers for some a-hole Republican Wisconsin Legislator posing as normal people? Like the Tom Delay staffers back in 2000 who staged the phony protest during the Dade County recount...

That's music criticism from The Onion. Stephanie Miller & The Mooks had a parody version that Mike in
Raleigh (or maybe he was already Rocky Mountain Mike, by then) did, but I can't find it.
