Happy 150th Birthday Canada!!!

We're not a perfect nation, and we've got some ways to go, but I do feel pretty happy about my home country most of the time! Fire up some Canadian music, have some good Canadian beer, wine, or spirits (or Pop Shoppe or something if you're not a drinker!) and grill something delicious. Poutine optional, but encouraged!

Side note: On Google Play Music I started a radio station based on The Tragically Hip's "Courage (For Hugh MacLennan)" and it gave me a great playlist that includes some of my favourites like Blue Rodeo, Matthew Good, Sloan, Headstones, 54-40, the Odds, Big Sugar, Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth, and The Watchmen. Good stuff!!

Skookum!

1. Happy Birthday to our nicest neighbor :-)

Sometimes during hockey games I try to sing "O Canada" along with our national anthem, but I get stuck on the words.
Anyway Canadians are the very nicest neighbors we have.

In my hometown of Pittsburgh we especially appreciate Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby, Mark Messier, and many great Canadian players who have made the Penguins an awesome team.

2. You gotta learn the standard bilingual lyrics to O Canada

I grew up in Ottawa, right on the border with Quebec (though I'm in Toronto, now), and that was the version we heard most frequently. First verse in English, abrupt change to French for the middle, then finish last couple of lines in English again. I remember once I was visiting some friends of mine down in California and they said there was no way I could sing O Canada in French (they were a little shocked when I could

3. Yes! Happy Birthday, Canada!

I've been there for each of the last two years, after having not been since 1999. I have distant family in New Brunswick, and it was great to visit them and see the beauty of that province.

4. Celebrations everywhere!

Transit rides anywhere in our city for $1.00!

Our Canada Day festivities got rained on here for a bit, but now sun's out again and everybody is back in to it.

Fireworks later on - I'll be able to watch from my apartment.

Have fun everybody!

Great music list...btw.

5. Canada Day: Time-lapse captures 'largest living maple leaf'

9m ago

Thousands of people have gathered at an intersection in the Canadian city of Winnipeg to create the country's "largest living maple leaf".

The event, organised by Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, was filmed from above and released as time-lapse footage.

It formed part of the day's national celebrations as Canada marks its 150th anniversary as a country.
