MPs vote to call GoFundMe to testify at Commons committee on convoy protest

Committee asking company to explain how it's ensuring funds are not being used to "promote extremism"

A parliamentary committee has voted unanimously to call officials from the popular crowdfunding site GoFundMe to answer questions about a fundraiser that has collected more than $10.1 million to support the anti-vaccine mandate protest in Ottawa.

The motion, proposed by NDP MP Alistair MacGregor, calls on company officials to appear before the House of Commons committee on public safety and national security "as soon as possible."

Liberal, Conservative and Bloc Québécois members of the committee joined MacGregor in voting to invite the company to testify.

The committee wants the company to answer questions about measures in place to "ensure the funds are not being used to promote extremism, white supremacy, anti-Semitism and other forms of hate, which have been expressed among prominent organizers for the truck convoy currently in Ottawa."

There needs to be assurance the donors are valid, legal and the monies aren't going to racist, white supremist, extremist groups.

They may have paid some fuel for the trucks that are there, but the rest was going straight into the pockets of the main characters:

1) Tamara Lich - Sec. of the Maverick Party - a far-right Western Secessionist party with strong ties to white nationalism. She also has direct ties to the failed "Yellow Vest" movement. It's her name on the $4.5 million Kickstarter for the convoy.

2) Patrick King - A known and avowed white nationalist who was recently pushed aside by Ezra Levant, and the alt-right movement in general, for being too extreme.

3) Ben Dichter - anti-vaxxer alt-right politician who posts "Crusade Against Islam" videos.

My guess is she figures she will get more money sticking with the extremist 'protest' organization.

I want to know where that million dollars went that GoFundMe already released to them. As you say, a pittance might have gone for fuel, other expenses but the majority no doubt, went directly into the extremist leaders' pockets.

Hopefully she finds herself out of pocket from both the separatist party she is part of and from GoFundMe.
