British government steps up recruitment of border officials ahead of Brexit

RTÉ News
August 1, 2019

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Rishi Sunak defended increased spending on preparing for a potential no-deal Brexit, saying the government's "clear desire" is for the UK to leave the EU by 31 October.

Speaking on BBC Radio, Mr Sunak said:..."That means we're going to be leaving the single market and the customs union, so of course that does mean changes to how we trade with Europe."

Meanwhile, Commons leader Jacob Rees-Mogg said the European Union should realise the new government would not be "browbeaten" by Brussels. In his Conservative Home podcast he said: "They should believe us because of our new leader. The new Prime Minister is somebody of considerable force of personality who is not going to be browbeaten by them.”

What we don’t fully comprehend is phase two of Putin’s plan, and how it will effect the world.

They aren’t going to be browbeaten. I bet Brussels is, quaking from fear. No wait that’s quaking from laughter.

The UK is going to hire an army of customs bureaucrats. That’s going to make trade tons more efficient. Won’t add anything to the cost of imports or hurt exports. Bureaucracy always helps.

Yep. That’ll show them
