Could Beto O'Rourke(D-TX) be the Democratic version of John Thune(R-SD)?

Thune(R-SD) first ran for the US Senate in 2002 against Johnson-D and narrowly lost then ran for the US Senate in 2004 against Daschle-D and narrowly won.
O'Rourke(D-TX) narrowly loses to Cruz-R in 2018, then challenges the other TX Republican Incumbent-Cornyn-R in 2020 and narrowly wins.

I have never seen a Cruz sign except on that said Cruz or Trump.

Too many know cruz is a corrupt liar and probably taking russian money, and with others in Congress. Nobody lies as much as trump and cruz that aren't corrupt. Cruz is bad, really really bad, and his day is coming I think to be exposed.
