Group of American Airlines pilots object to electronic voting on contract

A group of American Airlines pilots have raised objections to its union’s plans to vote on a proposed contract through Internet or telephone balloting.

In a letter, 429 pilots asked U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane to “exert whatever influence you have” to require that the Allied Pilots Association hold a contract vote using paper ballots rather than electronic methods.

The letter to Judge Lane said the union “has a history of problems with electronic voting and, as a result, now only uses mailed-in ballots when conducting officer elections.”
