Does anyone know how to convert .swf to .flv?

It is nuts that Adobe doesn't have a feature in Flash to convert or save. I have lots of old .swf animations I'd like to post on my FB professional page, but FB doesn't support .swf, have to be .flv...even though they're both just Flash files. I Googled it and found four free programs which claim to to do it, but one is PC only (I have Windows 7 on my Mac -- I suppose I could try booting it up), and the others claim to convert virtually any video format to any other, but then the .swf option isn't on the menu. I have the CS4 suite, the animations were created in Flash Pro and Flash CS3. I'm flummoxed!

On edit: I did find out how to capture video on-screen using QuickTime, but it doesn't capture sound. As a last resort, I might do a capture of the .swf, then try to sync the audio track to it. It's a work-around that shouldn't be necessary.

It does look a little complicated, though. It's the only one I've seen that lists .swf as an input source. But I'll have to launch Windows 7...I installed it on my Mac a few weeks ago in order to run my wife's crazy sewing machine, but we've never actually booted it up yet. This ought to be interesting!

Have a try with Jihosoft SWF Converter for Mac, although it is not free, but you may satisfy with the conversion result.

3. SWF and Flash are not video files

FLA is a Flash - Video Container. SWF can be looked at as an application. One of the features of the application is to display audio and video from a contained file.

Rather than "converting" to FLV, you may want to look at something like a SWF Extractor. An extractor can rip-out the contained video and audio (usually MP3 for audio and MP4 for Audio/Video) and write it to a file. Then that file format can be converted, or placed directly into an FLV container.

Most of the so called "SWF to Video Converters" are to capture the animations created in an SWF file.. like some of those interactive games and ads that move sprites around over a timeline, by way of Flash and ActionScript. If all you want to do is play a video file, look for a ripper/extractor.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, but I haven't figured out how to insert a link using my ipad.

Freemake is a one-touch converter. I love it. They also have a free downloader for youtube, vimeo, etc.

I suppose it's a career thing, so it'd be tax deductible. But damn...that's steep for a one-trick pony!

Atman,

Did any of these work for you? I too have a bunch of decade-old animations -- fla's and swf's -- that I can't get converted into a format that youtube will take.

SWF is also the flash video format as FLV and they can be used in some common situations. But SWF is less famous than FLV; many people are not familiar with the video format. So, when someone gets some SWF videos even share them on YouTube, he would like to convert the videos to FLV just by intuition. Then, how to convert SWF to FLV? I'm sure some top free video converters are pretty helpful. If you don't want to install the 3rd party software, you may make a search about free online video converter via Google. I don't think this is a problem nowadays.
