I'm trying to find a driver to make an old (brand new) printer run on Windows 7
Can anybody help? There seems to be a way to make older software/drivers work in Program Compatibility, but I can't seem to figure it out.
I can get a Vista driver here
http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=en&page=product&productCode=LEXMARK_X6150&segment=SUPPORT&userlocale=EN#1
but it won't install correctly.
HELP! pretty please.

(28,791 posts)it starts installing, finishes, and then says it "driver did not install correctly".
this was before I found out about the compatibility mode.
I think I have to start the Windows mode, then download and install the driver. I think?

(26,366 posts)Vista and Windows 7 are very similar (7 is really just a cleaned up version of Vista).
Here's a guide to using compatibility mode when installing the driver:

(33 posts)Is it connected locally (via USB cable or whatnot to the back of your computer?). If so, I would recomment uninstalling anything Lexmark on the PC, disconnecting the printer.... reboot, then install the driver (without the printer connected) and then wait until either the installer finishes or you are prompted to connect the printer.
If it's a network printer, Windows 7 typically downloads the Lexmark Universal driver from Windows Update, which should work as long as the PC in question is connected to the Internet when you try to connect to the printer. Best of luck!
