Upgrade to Monterey?

I received a note on my iMac. I am currently on High Sierra 10.13.6.

I think that some here are not impressed with Monterey?

I don't use all the bells and whistles. Pretty much surfing the net, using Microsoft Office, storing some pictures and scanning on occasions.

Any opinions?

Thanks

has a few problems . freezing up. certain apps locking up. have to do the 3 fingered salute . ie option/command/esacpe now and then. otherwise no real issue . a lot of my apps made the changer over from 32 to 64 bit oses . many didnt . found 64 bit versions or just unilstalled and re installed and away we went. good luck.

A recent upgrade of Catalina OSX on my MacMini 2012 resulted in Facebook crashing when using my Firefox Web browser (otherwise, it worked perfectly fine ). Filed complaints with Facebook, Apple and Bugzilla. I guess Apple was the prime suspect, because another Catalina upgrade about two weeks later solved the problem.

and second, do a backup or 2.

I had to go thru every trick in the book to upgrade properly.

Once upon a time, i had a catastrophic install.

Apple has a way of making user interface require read glasses and tranquilizers. Find an update to date Mac and compare how things look.

High speed internet is required.

I wish I had stayed below Big Sur.

Getting to Big Sur from older OSes will be more challenging. Some of your applications will probably get busted. Use Time Machine beforehand.

I personally wouldn't do it, especially if you don't need all the bells and whistles. The plus side, is added security, but you can keep up to date with Security Updates. I did move up to Mojave (next one up), and am happy with it...my desktop can't upgrade any further....

a problem. Mine is only three years old. I purchased Microsoft Office at the same time and I have been getting notes to upgrade it too, but want to make sure that I will be able to access older files.

Same with Quicken, which wants me to be a (paid) subscriber. I am perfectly happy with the 2019 (or was it 2018?) version.

Can't download files from the bank, but never used it for that.

I did end up buying standalone Office Suite for the new system and 1Password standalone. I hate the subscription model for software.

however , security patches may be a issue. i dont know how much longer this 10 yo mac book air may be able to upgrade as evrything is mega bloatware nowadays.
