My Maps app doesn't always talk to me
I really need the voice on the Maps app--sometimes he speaks, sometimes he doesn't. I have looked at all the settings and have everything that I think may apply to sound turned on. Sometimes he just gets me out of the driveway, speaking, then stops for the rest of the trip! Has anyone else experienced this?

3. I just did a little more digging
It said to be sure you've updated your phone (which I just did). And if it keeps not working, uninstall and reinstall the app. If it keeps doing it, I'll try that and post the results here.

2. usually it's because it is connected to your car via bluetooth
if you don't switch your car audio to Bluetooth you won't hear anything.

4. My car is too old, I think.
All the sound comes out of the phone itself. No connection to the car except through car lighter/charger.

7. There is a new option to have the app to work
through blue tooth. Nice as you can listen to the radio and the map app will cut in with directions. If you don’t have blue tooth and accidentally tap that I assume you’ll loose the sound. It’s a weird squiggle looking thing.

5. This is what my kid tells me. It's so confusing to a 70 year old.

6. A couple of ideas
These may or may not work but they are simple and worth a try.
The first thing I would try is to make certain I had the latest iOS installed. The second thing is to shut down the phone completely (https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/turn-iphone-on-or-off-iph841379c3d/ios). Then restart to see if rebooting has resolved the issue. Are you connecting your phone to your car through the USB port or just just the phone by itself? If you use the USB port to charge and play through your radio, make certain you do not have lint stuck in the port. I carry my phone in my pants pocket and it picks up lint. I then occasionally have trouble charging or connecting to AirPlay in my car using a USB cable. Using compressed air and a wooden toothpick to loosen the lint and blow it out, I can clean out the port so everything works properly. Hope these ideas help with the odd behavior of your iPhone! |

11. The simple answer--this works
Very simple. If it's plugged in to the dash, the car thinks it's a faulty CD. (2015 car--smart, but not that smart.) If I just unplug it while I need the voice, it works fine. I plug it in for charging when I'm on the long stretches with no new instructions.
This was making me nuts. |
