Related: About this forumMy iPhone won't talk
The other day I asked Siri for direction to a certain place. No problem, found it and the route was on the screen. But there were no verbal directions!
I studied the route, followed the main highway but once I left it I had to stop occasionally to see where the next turn is.
So I decided to download Waze. (Hey, I am relatively new iPhone user and do not use it as a computer..)
Yesterday I told Waze to find a place. Sure did, ready to go, "Siri" asked. No, later.
This morning I am ready to leave, telling Waze to go and... again only map no verbal instructions. My GPS in the car will talk to me.
Thankfully I knew where I was going, this was a test.
But, what a I missing?
Thanks

I wonder if maybe your phone in accidentally in silent mode?
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

(14,521 posts)The car like to hijack audio.
I'd like to tell you how to change the audio output device, but I can't find it.
I know that when I'm on a call, I can change the output to speaker, or headphones (mine still plug in)
One time, the GPS stopped talking, and (you guessed it) restarting the phone cured it.
Can't comment on Waze. Apple Maps have improved and get me where I need to go.
It's worth using the GPS just to warn when a required turn is ahead before I can see it.

(4,955 posts)I discovered that it would NOT talk if it was plugged in--an issue in my 2015 car having its phone charger connected to its radio system (Bluetooth), which is where the "talking" comes from. If I unplug it, it speaks to me.
