An Iowa man learned that the hard way.
Devon J. Torbol, 24, of 2551½ Washington St., was arrested at 11:26 a.m. Monday on charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, operating while intoxicated, unlawful possession of a prescription drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts and driving while barred.
Court documents said a Dubuque police officer saw a vehicle with sparks and smoke coming from under its hood while driving on West Fourth Street near Locust Street at about 11 a.m. Monday. The vehicle pulled over, and the officer stopped to assist.
The officer found that the license of the driver, Torbol, had been suspended, according to court documents. When a second officer arrived, Torbol fled on foot, but he was apprehended after a short foot chase. Lt. Scott Baxter said Torbol’s passenger also fled on foot and was not relocated.
Police found 4.5 grams of meth and a pipe in Torbol’s pockets, according to court documents. Torbol failed field sobriety tests, and police determined he was under the influence of a stimulant and cannabis. Torbol also had unprescribed naloxone in his vehicle.
